Yellow lovebirds at weaning stage
Lovebirds (Agapornis spp.) make good pets and are models of love relationship. They are pets of happy homes. They make good pets for growing children. Couples who keep lovebirds seldom quarrel and are known to be loyal to each other for life.
It is because of the unique nature of lovebirds as social and affectionate. The name lovebird stems from these parrots' strong, monogamous pair bonding and the long periods of time in which paired birds will spend sat beside one another.
In German, lovebirds are called die Unzertrennlichen, and in French les inséparables, both meaning "the inseparables".
Lovebirds live in small flocks and eat mainly fruits and vegetables, some grasses and seeds. They easily get adjusted to a life of captivity. They are tame and easy to take care. They chirp and sing and make a happy ambiance. There are several color mutations that have been selectively breed in aviculture. The bird's average lifespan is 10 to 15 years.
