Who wouldn't be amazed by the decorative rugs
that grace the sala, bed and floor,
made of trimmings and cuts otherwise waste
given a second life and honor?
Ingenious expression of grassroots' art and skill,
out of necessity's influence;
and who would take the trouble to piece together
the remnants of affluence?
but a kindly lady, a bundle of rugs on her head,
down the road everyday;
what matters to her may be a different story,
but the li'l respect we pay.~
