This photo was taken from a car traveling along Sudipen, the last town of La Union before Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. The huge statue stands on the high bank of a wide river dividing the two towns. Through the years, the river has eroded its banks, and now threatens the safety of the place.
It amazes me at the fine craftsmanship of this obra maestra of local artisans. The statue's assuring pose and aura momentarily attract passersby to make the sign of the cross, or even genuflect before proceeding to their chores or trip. I was among them.
