Light of Dawn
Miss Genevieve V. Andrada
"The greatest reward of all is discovering talents in young people." - Dr AV Rotor, Professor in Humanities, SPC-QC
1. Friend
A homing pigeon gets a friendly pat and good luck wish.San Vicente, Ilocos Sur
A friend has a kind heart,
And removes all your pain and hurt,
She puts in its place a bright, colorful rainbow,
And makes for you a grassy meadow.
A friend helps you when you're in need,
And plants within you a friendly seed;
She helps you decide
And knows all the secrets you hide.
A friend is someone you can trust,
And gives you all that a friend must;
She cares for you more than anyone could
And treasures friendship more than anyone would.
A friend always keeps in touch,
For she loves you very much;
She helps you feel the best in town
And will never let you down.
2. The Beauty of Our World
Strolling in a garden of ornamentals on Mt. Banahaw, Lucban, Quezon
With this talent that God has given me
I want the deaf to hear, the blind to see
The beauty of our world that we ignore
In favor of pollution, smoke and more.
Buildings, factories and cars
Hurt our planet with scars.
Our home is suffering, do we see her pain,
Or do we think of our personal gain?
Freshness of air, the dance of the trees
Even the sun's smile and kiss
Will soon disappear from our view.
If we don't start to act and do
The necessary precautions we must take
For our generation's sake.
Gathering seashells and seaweeds at low tide in Calatagan, Batangas
Life gets so confusing
And hard to figure out
As I am growing up fast.
What's it all about.
Things are changing quickly,
But I'll soon find out.
I feel a different person
In me and I wonder why.
Sometimes it gets scary
And I want to run away
But I know things will fit together
Somehow, sometime, someday. ~
4. Technology
Mutant by A.V.Rotor depicts danger of a runaway technological world
Fast growing trend
Bringing about economic success.
Achieves unity in people
Making the world a smaller place
Engineers creativity
Produces unique creations.
Granting comfort.
Easing one's worries and pains.
Constantly changing
Developing swiftly
Yet,
A main concern
Of advocates everywhere
Stressing the cause
Of overpopulation and degradation.
5. A Touch of Sunshine
Orchid perched on a high branch of pine tree on Mount
St. Paul photographed with 200 mm telephoto tens.
Add a touch of sunshine
In everything you do today
Put on a smile divine
And happiness will come your way.
Within your heart, seek purity
Dare to come out from the shadows.
With your eyes seek clarity
Beyond the beauty of the meadows.
6. Childhood Poems
My Stuffed Bear
I have a bear
His name is rare
For I call him "Care".
He is loyal and fair,
And has a lot of brown hair:
He sometimes sits on a chair;
When I'm lonely, He's there.
Rain
Let's go away
For it will rain all day!
People run and hide
For it begins to rain outside.
Oh, no! The thunder roars!
I'm scared,
I don't want to hear more!
Quick! Let's go away.
I'd rather have the sun
Than a rainy day!
Sun
Come and run,
Let's look at the sun,
She is big and bright,
Shining with all her might.
She is loyal and true
And gives life to more than few.
I love the sun
And having fun.
Don't you?
Impressions
"One can glimpse from this book, Light of Dawn, insights of a young writer about life and her bright outlook in the future. She sees the world as fresh as the break of dawn, as she poetically blends the past with the present, tradition with change, innocence and dream."
- Sis Bernadette Racadio, SPC, College Dean St Paul College, QC
"Beautiful and talented Viva has shown in her works tangible inspiration for everybody, especially for the young. There is freshness, clarity, and worthy meaning in her craft..." - Adelino "Dell" H. Grecia, Columnist, Filipino Reporter Magazine
"Her lines sound lyrical, sometimes musical; yet, there is such depth and sensitivity you wouldn't think they come from the heart of a seventeen-year old." - Sis. Mary Sarah Manapol, Head Communication Arts Department, SPC-QC
"So natural is her style that her poems exude the innocence and idealism of youth. She speaks of dreams that we, grown-ups, have distinctly set aside from reality. In her poems reality is dream, and dream is tomorrow's reality." - Sis. Rosella Faypon, Head Formation Center, SPC-QC
* Light of Dawn was launched on the author's birthday debut in 1997, published by Progressive Printing Palace, QC. (A birthday debut is a formal celebration of a girl's 18th birthday in the Philippines. It's a coming-of-age ceremony that marks the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Internet)
