Landscaping with Nature at San Vicente Botanical Garden

Landscaping with Nature
at San Vicente Botanical Garden
San Vicente, Ilocos Sur - Heritage Zone of the North (RA 11645)

Dr Abe V Rotor

Morning comes in tapestry of leaves and flowers,
trees rising to meet the new day like towers,

“A greenhouse of shrubs, lianas and trees around,
I humbly greet Nature, sans flair, sans sound.”.

“Stairway to the hill and waterfall;
Welcome young and old, and all.”

“Rows of seedlings of fruit trees
grow with the sun and breeze.”

"Landscape painting on an old table,
made it aesthetically renewable."

“Strange these ferns all around,
instead of looking up, I look at them
Down on the ground.”

“Hidden like in the jungle this magnificent waterfall,
Its watershed, its source, stream leading to its goal.”

Arboretum, replica of the tropical rainforest,
four storeys high into the blue sky;
lung of the living earth, richest ecosystem,
home, and transience of those that fly.

A wall mural by the street in broad daylight,
casts its shadow to every one's delight.

"Ornamental plants by the window pane
Take the backseat aircon, and curtain."

“It's a fort of green trees around,
that buffer against noise and wind,
filter dusts and glare of the sun,
residence* for austere living” ~

“Nanny or yaya, you deserve the honor,
For your kindness and many a favor.”

Take time out from TV, computer, malling;
life's so dull, busy yet empty;
The left brain's overworked, the right idle,
growing up is a sad story.

Rizal in the Garden

Remembering Philippine National Hero, Dr Jose Rizal on Exile at Dapitan
Rizal discovered living organisms unnamed in his time, such as a flying (gliding) lizard (Draco Rizali), Harlequin Tree Frog (Racophorus Rizali), among others, named after him.

“Apo Baket, keeper of tradition in the garden,
Reminds us the values of old now and then.”

"Agave, genus of the maguey family,
Looks alike with the flowering lily,
Yet far apart from their phylogeny,
Their evolution and long history.”

“Anahaw palm rests on a painted jar,
Of the sea and sky, sun and star.”
