“A thing of beauty is a boy forever,” they say.
It’s true. The boy lives in the man all his life;
The joys of adventure remain fresh every day,
Distilled in courage to go on even in strife.
Nature - greatest teacher, guardian, friend,
Rolled in one – she’s all around all the time.
Faithful, true to the adventurer to the end,
To the boy in man, in any calling and clime. ~
Details of painting
Fishing tests skill, but more of patience, forging the stream;
the prize a big fish, but bigger an idea, and biggest a dream.
A family of parakeets, procreation and instinct in their finest;
envy of humans, aiming at perfecting the art, their greatest test.
A kaleidoscope of butterflies fluttering,
paints the cliff into living sceneries:
the rainbow over the hills,
Christmas in the trees.
Scale the mountain, not for its height,
but ones courage put to test;
adventure into a search for meaning
of life, into ones very best.
The sailboats go with the wind,
their keels set the way;
wonder where we go hereafter,
at the end of the day.
Courtesy of Eighten and Job Rotor, 7 and 2 years old, to whom this painting is dedicated, a gift of the author, they fondly call Lolo Abe. The painting graces their home in Barangay Rugsuanan, Vigan City.
