The children made a house, each his own:
Post, walls, stair, window, door.
Cheek on palm, eyelids moving, thought of
TV, garage, swimming pool, Corinthian patio.
Twirling a pencil, pondered:
Trees, hills, mountains, cloud, sun.

“Here,” they showed their houses,
Proudly each his own.

“There’s something missing.”
Back to drawing board:
Birds in the sky and trees singing.

“Here,” they showed again their houses.

“There’s still something missing.
Would you like to live in your houses?”

Silence.
Fingers moved, lips tight:
More lines, shades, colors, now with flowers.

“Here,” they showed again their houses.”

“But there’s still one more missing.”

Pause.

A little girl in a corner drew and drew:
A house nearby, people around.

She showed her house.

And the children chorused: “Neighbor!” ~
