Reflection for the Day: Humility

Monument of Fr Miguel Benavides, OP, founder of the University of Santo Tomas, on its quadricentennial year (1611-2011)

Dr Abe V Rotor

When we can no longer fathom
Every discovery that uncovers
A thousand-and-one hidden truth,
For which we always aspire to know,
That, which writes
sapiens after Homo,
We realize that discovery is truly God’s gift,
To unveil His mystery;
And by accepting this fact,
Humbly we submit ourselves
True children of God.

What makes humility so desirable is the marvelous thing it does to us; it creates in us a capacity for the closest possible intimacy with God and suppose that in order to become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them.
